The Gatimaan Express is not the only train between Delhi and Agra. This page lists the others the official pages name, what each source actually says, and where no official page gives a time or a fare.
Editorial team, tajmahaltraintour.com · Updated November 7, 2026 · Takes 7 min
If you search for a Delhi to Agra express train, you will find far more names than timetables. The Taj Mahal site, run by the Uttar Pradesh tourism department, is plain about it: the main trains connecting Agra with Delhi are Palace on Wheels, Shatabdi, Rajdhani, Gatimaan and Taj Express.1 It sends readers to irctc.co.in for train details and gives 139 as the phone number.6 That short list is the official starting point, and this page works through it.
What the list does not give is a ranking. None of the official pages we read puts these trains in order by journey time, comfort or price, and a ranking built on remembered timetables would be a guess. What can be said with a source is narrower and more useful: which Delhi station each train leaves from, which sources print a time, and which services run on which days.1
The Gatimaan stays the reference point for this site, so each section below sets the other trains against it. The launch release has the 12050 leaving Hazrat Nizamuddin at 08.10 a.m. and reaching Agra Cantt at 09.50 a.m.7 That pairing of a Delhi departure and an Agra arrival is what a day-trip plan needs, and it is what the other trains should be judged on, not on their name or their reputation.
The Shatabdi is the better documented one. Indian Railways' own Shatabdi list shows train 12002, the Bhopal Shatabdi, leaving New Delhi at 06:00 and reaching Habibganj at 14:25, and 12001 leaving Habibganj at 15:00 and reaching New Delhi at 23:30.2 The list prints the end points only, not the stops in between, so the page cannot tell you from the list alone when it reaches Agra. Read the stop list on the booking page before you plan around it.
The practical point is the Delhi station. The Shatabdi in that list starts at New Delhi, not Hazrat Nizamuddin, and New Delhi has a metro station about 100 m from the railway station, joined by a foot overbridge.2,12 A traveler who books a Shatabdi after reading about the Gatimaan can easily go to the wrong station, so check the departure station name on the ticket, not only the train number.
The Rajdhani and the Taj Express are named by the Taj Mahal site and nothing more.1 The pages we read print no departure time or station for either, so we do not give one. They are options worth checking on the railway's own enquiry service, and the Taj Mahal site points readers to irctc.co.in for exactly that.6 If you find a good match, apply the same test as for any train: Delhi station, Agra station, arrival time and the days it runs.
Vande Bharat trains are the newest name in the list, and the Ministry of Railways lists them by number. Its list of chair car services includes 20175/20176 Banaras to Agra Cantt, and its list for Madhya Pradesh names 20171/20172 Rani Kamlapati to Hazrat Nizamuddin, running 6 days a week.3,13 The same list names 22469/22470 Khajuraho to Hazrat Nizamuddin, also running 6 days a week.14
None of those lines is a Delhi to Agra shuttle, and none of them prints an Agra time. They are long-distance services that the lists name, and the pages we read do not say which of them call at Agra between Delhi and their far end, apart from the Banaras service that ends at Agra Cantt.3 The Prime Minister flagged off the Vande Bharat Express between Bhopal and New Delhi, which tells you the route exists but not where it stops.15
The sensible way to use this is as a search aid. If a booking site shows a Vande Bharat on your date, note its number, check the stop list for Agra Cantt and the Delhi departure station, and compare its departure with the Gatimaan's 08.10 a.m.7 If the Delhi station is Hazrat Nizamuddin, the Metro link is a short road away, about 200 m.16 The comparison page on this site sets the Gatimaan against Vande Bharat and the Shatabdi in more detail.

Compare the journeysFor a luxury train from Delhi to Agra the answer is the Palace on Wheels, and it is a different kind of journey. Incredible India describes it as an expertly crafted 7-night, 8-day expedition through Rajasthan that culminates in Agra, home of the Taj Mahal.4 It is a circuit, not a transfer: you do not buy it to get from Delhi to Agra in a day, and the Taj Mahal site lists it among the trains connecting the cities.1
In the account on that page, the train reached Agra on the penultimate day after a morning at Bharatpur, then returned to Delhi.22 The page gives no fares or departure dates that we can quote, so ask the operator for those; the account itself is a narrative, not a price list. Because the pages here name no timetable for it, plan it as a holiday booked through the operator, separately from any day trip, and keep the dates in your own calendar.
For a luxury day trip on rails, the closest match on this site is the day tour that takes the Gatimaan out and back with a guide at each end. It is not a luxury train, but it removes the station logistics that make a self-planned day tiring, and it is priced from $100. Compare it with the car and transfer options in the calculator before you decide.
